Are Any as Dumb as the Dumb Ox?

One by one come the oxen all lumbering in
With their eyes as one fixed on the ground.
They bounce off each other and head for the bins
Where the fodder for them can be found.

But why all this pushing to get the first place?
There is room for each one in these stalls!
One would think that each ox were somehow in a race
As if food were not ample for all!

And then note how each animal, gaining a niche,
Without pause on its fodder will gorge.
Yes, each seems obsessed with its food — and to pitch
All the while much good food on the floor!

I have often dined out with my family and kin
And observed many people about;
I have noted their likeness to oxen, herein —
TO THEIR BELLIES THEY'RE VERY DEVOUT!!

FOR WHEN WITHOUT PRAY'R MEN WILL SIT DOWN TO EAT
AND THEN THANKLESS ARISE FROM THE TABLE,
THEY ARE TRAMPLING THE GIFTS OF GOD UNDER THEIR FEET
AND ARE LIKE THE DUMB OX IN ITS STABLE!

That's it — blunt and to the point.
