Spiritual Hunger

Walking through this world of darkness
I see no life in many eyes
They try to find a bit of hope
In this world filled with lies

Many walk behind a mask
And with a smile, the truth they hide
Not wanting anyone to see
What it is that’s deep inside

As they stumble through the dark
Happiness they try to find
Seeking it from those like them
Not knowing that they too are blind

They seek where they can satisfy
Their inner thirst, their hunger
They come across a broken source
Then try to find one stronger

Not knowing that the source is He (Jesus)
And they need search no longer
Because He died to set them free
To Satisfy their hunger

A Captive Soul Set Free

So beautiful a site to see
A captive soul set free
To see a heart that’s overjoyed
When chains that held him are destroyed
For this my life I want to live
Hope to the lost I wish to give
And see evil spirits take flight
From those that they once held so tight
Nothing more do I admire
Than to see a Holy fire
Fill those who were once so cold
To the truth that they were told
Oh God I ask for just one thing
Wisdom from You so I could bring
Those who are lost to You
And show to them a love that’s true
So beautiful a site to see
A captive soul set free!

When the Fire Dies

If the fire in you shall die
Do not give up the fight
When outside forces test your faith
Do not turn from the light

When darkness overtakes your path
May it not escape your mind
That when you seek Him with your heart
He will never leave you blind

When even friends seem not to care
When the world is one cold place
And leaves you standing all alone
Do not forget about His grace

When no one else quite understands
The pain that lives inside
Don’t forget the price He paid
Just to walk by your side

When it may seem you fell too far
In sins that you’ve betrayed him for
Know even then that He still stands
Gently knocking at your door

Once a Child

A forgiving heart
Seeing everyone as his friends
A pure open mind
Unable to tell when someone pretends

An innocent ear
That believes all it hears
Eyes full of trust
Smiling so soon after tears

He does not know
What it means to despise
Nor that this world
Is filled with so many lies

Oh sweet child
It’s painful to see
What many like you
Have grown up to be

Escape

In a world that is so perverse
In You my Lord I want to hide
In a life where innocents are cursed
I need Your light to be my guide

When friends and loved ones turn away
Because of rumors they’ve been told
Give me strength for them to pray
And let my heart never grow cold

When evil comes to me in disguise
Keep me Lord under Your wings
When in my ears he whispers lies
May they be closed to what he brings

Redeemed

In a dark cage chained in chains
There sat a slave enslaved in sin
She tried to stand but fell again
She tried to fight but couldn’t win

Pleading for help her heart cried out
Not many heard her as she wept
She was laughed at and tormented
By enemy that never slept

Than a light pierced through the dark
Causing the enemy to flee
Jesus looked down and stretched His hand
And picking her up, He set her free

Unconditional Love

A love without measure
One that forgives all
More valuable than any treasure
To Him is my poor soul

He heard the screams
Throughout the crowd
That had him crucified
And yet while dying innocent
Their sin He justified

Forgive them father
They don’t know
With His last breath He said
While the crowd
Mocked Him below
All mercy in them dead

To Him alone I want to give
My mind, my heart, my soul
For Him my life I want to live
Who’s love is unconditional

Sympathy

I knew not quite what to do
When I saw a heart all torn
I wanted to mend all its wounds
But all that I could do was mourn

I saw the pain in her eyes
But could not find a thing to say
And with the burden on my heart
I slowly turned and walked away

Her tears of sorrow and bitter pain
Now flood my memory
My heart cries out to you dear Lord
For You alone can set her free

Take oh God her heavy heart
And do for her what I can’t do
Shine light into her broken life
And in Your arms carry her through

The last poem was written by my brother, Dmitry Kishko.

Vanity

The way man
Would walk this land
And toward his dream
Stretch out his hand
With both his eyes
Fixed on the prize
He learns the trade
He sells he buys
Still emptiness
Is just a sign
That he has passed
The finish line
All his success
Brought him no gain
Just one big mess
And all in vain
Another tries
To fill his hunger
With earthly pleasures
Without number
He builds his world
And satisfies
The voice of lust
Which whispers lies
But if he’d stop
He’d realize
Uncomprehendible
Is his hunger’s size
Then others try
To soothe their soul
And sell it for
Some rock-n-roll
Some go to sail
The great blue sea
All in search
Of their destiny
Through a ship wreck
They will find
They cannot fill
The void inside
This world is empty
This world is cursed
And all its pleasures
Are perverse
So all of you
Who blindly try
To gain your soul
Shall surely die
Who’s soul is crippled
Who’s heart is blind
All those in search
Of peace of mind
A God sized void
Is in us all
And only God
Can fill your soul
